RealVisXL V5.0 is the current main standard release in the RealVisXL SDXL series.

There is also RealVisXL V5.0 Lightning for fast few-step generation.

This guide explains the latest version in plain language. It only uses public model-card facts.

What V5.0 is for

RealVisXL is made for photoreal text-to-image results.

Official wording says it can produce decent quality for SFW and NSFW images. You still must follow:

  • the Open RAIL++ license rules
  • site rules on Civitai / Hugging Face
  • the law where you live

V5.0 is a checkpoint you load in tools like ComfyUI, Forge, or Automatic1111. It is not a full app by itself.

Civitai classifies the model as a Checkpoint Merge. Public author notes credit merge use of:

Hugging Face cards place RealVisXL V5.0 in the StableDiffusionXLPipeline family, with an approximate 3B parameter class and Safetensors weights.

Training steps field

Civitai shows a Training Steps value of 1,340,000 on V5.0 (BakedVAE). Public pages do not fully explain whether that number is pure training, distillation, merge metadata, or a mix. Do not over-read it.

Recommended sampling for standard V5.0

Public tips mention ideas like:

  • denoise about 0.1–0.3
  • upscale about 1.1–1.5
  • upscalers such as 4x-NMKD-Superscale-SP_178000_G or 4x-UltraSharp

Civitai also lists optional ENSD 31337 in some tips.

What is not clearly fixed on the standard card

The public standard V5.0 card does not always give one single “must use” CFG number the way Lightning cards do. Community habits vary. Start from the card, then test.

Recommended sampling for V5.0 Lightning

Lightning is for speed.

Public tips typically say:

  • about 4–6 steps (some HF text mentions 5)
  • CFG 1.0–2.0
  • sampler family: DPM++ SDE Karras / DPM++ SDE

Hires.Fix style tips for Lightning often look like:

  • about 3 steps
  • denoise about 0.5
  • CFG 1.0–2.0

If a result looks washed out or noisy, check that you did not use standard high-step settings on a Lightning file (or the reverse).

Standard vs Lightning: how to choose

Choose V5.0 when:

  • you want the main quality path
  • you can afford more steps
  • you are making a final still image

Choose V5.0 Lightning when:

  • you want fast previews
  • you are iterating prompts
  • your machine is slow or you are using a shared demo
